Honk!

This February, Hommocks Middle School put on a musical. The show was Honk!, which is a musical rendition of the story of the Ugly Duckling, and Madeleine not only tried out for a part but actually bagged the female lead, playing Ida, Ugly's mother. (There were two casts and the other Ida was played by Maddi's good friend Rebecca Futterman.)

Well, now the reviews are in, and Weasel and Egret give Honk! “two very enthusiastic paws/claws up!!!” A typical reaction from a randomly chosen member of the audience – “Maddi was awesome! I can’t believe she is my own daughter!” Opening night was supposed to be on Friday, February 7th, but we had a snow storm that day and both school and opening night were cancelled. As a result, the February 8th matinee ended up being the first performance – emotions ran high, there were tear-soaked tissues all over the auditorium, and the show concluded with a standing ovation. Saturday evening featured the other cast, with Rebecca Futterman in the role of Ida, and the show was equally well done and well appreciated by the audience. The final performance, on Sunday afternoon, was the one originally scheduled for Friday evening, but since it was now the cast's swansong, they were all relaxed and the show went better than ever. Congratulations to Maddi and the rest of the company for a job well done!

Here are a few pics, taken during rehersals.
